Jesus is the King. This theme is so strong in our minds we often read into the Bible and draw the conclusion that the Bible must be praising Jesus as the King. With that in mind, we come to Romans 5.
Romans 5:17 For if, because of one man’s trespass, death reigned through that one man, much more will those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man Jesus Christ.
Did it say Jesus is the King who reign? That is not what it said here. Two objects reigns here.
- Death reigned through Adam’s trespass.
- Those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness reign through Jesus Christ
Who are those who receive the abundance of grace and the free gift of righteousness? They are the born again, the disciples of Christ. They reign, in life, this life.
Through Jesus Christ, followers of Christ can reign instead of allowing death to reign. We need to take back the control. We can only do that when in Christ because it is through Christ. We need to choose God.
